Benefits of Being a Member

To access our services you must first join as a member then you will be automatically eligible to call our trained telephonists during our opening hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) to request transportation for your medical appointment, shopping trip or social visit. If you contact the Car Sharing Scheme and there is no answer, please leave a message on our answerphone with your name, phone number and a short message, and we will call you back as soon as we are able to do so. If you are calling out-with our operating hours your call will be returned on the next working day.

We require a minimum of two working days' notice to book a journey (i.e. Monday for Wednesday, Tuesday for Thursday and Friday for Tuesday) as all our drivers are volunteers and fit runs around their own personal commitments. Please contact us as soon as you know you need transport. We cannot always guarantee to provide a driver so the more notice you give the higher the chance of finding one will be. To ensure the driver is best placed to help you we need as much information as you are able to share with us. It is useful for us to know roughly how long your appointment may last as sometimes our drivers are booked for more than one run or have other personal commitments. Please let the Telephonist know if you want to add shopping to a medically related journey (higher charge will apply).

All journeys must directly benefit you, the member, and the Scheme should not be used to assist family members or friends.

Our volunteer drivers are only able to provide transport for your journey. If you need assistance because of reduced mobility you will be required to provide an Escort or Carer to accompany you and assist with your needs.

To make sure you, your driver and any other passengers are fully insured all runs must be booked direct through the Car Share Scheme. We also need to know if you will be accompanied by another member, Escort or Carer.

We are unable to help with runs to the airport or bus and railway stations in Aberdeen or Inverness. However, if you need to catch a bus or train for onward travel our driver will be happy to take you to your nearest bus stop or train station.

Member Testimonials

"Without the Car Share Scheme I'd be unable to attend my medical appointments. The telephonists are friendly and helpful as are the drivers.
I spend a lot of time on my own so it's nice to be able to have a chat. With some cars it takes me time to get in and out but the drivers are very patient. I'd be lost without you so well done to all"

I cannot think of the words to describe the kindness and convenience of the Car Share which I have used usually in difficult and trying times."

"I find the service you give very reliable and the telephonists and drivers are poilite, friendly and helpful. Worthy of every word of praise. Thank you and keep up this wonderful service."

"Where would I be without you? I would be stuck at home, could not afford taxis everywhere and public transport would not be suitable as I am disabled with only one leg and a wheelchair. I use Car Sharing Scheme for appointments to Dr Gray's in Elgin also ARI, Aberdeen. The drivers are excellent, courteous, very friendly and helpful. I also use The Scheme to go shopping in Elgin, the garden centre and other places. Altogether a very useful service."

"I have been using the Car Sharing Scheme for a few years now, and am so glad of it. The Coordinators and Drivers are friendly, but not intrusive, and I never feel rushed. I use The Scheme mostly for shopping, but for doctor and hospital appointments too. This eases a lot of anxiety about getting there on time because we have a limited bus service. Thank you Car Share for this; for me it is an essential service."

"I have been using the Car Sharing Scheme for abot 10 years now and find that it is very helpful for getting to medical appointments etc.
I would recommend anyone, who is eligible, to join as it really is a useful service and the drivers are all very friendly."

"I would like to say how delighted I am with the service provided by the volunteers for the Speyside Community Car Sharing Scheme. We are very lucky to have such a facility in the area and I will not hesitate to recommend you in the future. We are so very fortunate to have the car sharing scheme in our area, I know that the volunteers give up so much of their free time to transport people to appointments which they otherwise might not be able to attend. Once again, Many thanks."
